Lookout Games • 2014
A two-player spatial puzzle game created by Uwe Rosenberg. Players compete to build the most aesthetic and high-scoring 9x9 quilt board by drafting polyomino fabric patches using buttons as currency and time as a track resource. Buying patches costs buttons and advances your time marker. Managing time efficiency, button income, and grid spatial layout is the key to victory. Patchwork uses a unique time-track turn structure: whichever player is furthest behind on the time track takes the next turn. This allows players to take multiple quick actions in a row if they pick low-time patches. Plays in 15 to 30 minutes for 2 players. Easy to teach, relaxing to look at, yet filled with sharp spatial decisions, Patchwork is a masterclass in light 2-player game design.

Most board games quietly fall apart above 4 players. Turns drag, half the table checks out, and someone ends up on their phone. These are the ones that actually hold up at 6, 7, and 8 — games where more people means more energy, not more waiting.
Your group has played Codenames enough. These are games where decisions matter, bluffs have consequences, and paying attention is rewarded. Heavier and more demanding than party games, and more satisfying because of it.
